I began leather working in my junior year of high school. The art instructor
convinced me to enter my project in a contest at a local college and won second with a clock I made and a gift to my grandma.
While helping support and raise a family, I worked with leather, when
time permitted. At one time I had almost completed every kit that tandy had in the catalogue, with the exception of saddles
and horse accessories. The reason I completed so many leather kits is while in high school my mom started me off doing projects
for her friends and our framily. As I got older my friends and family came to me and requested items made.
After approxamantly ten years into working with leather I began to order
sides of leather and make most of my projects from bottom up.
At age sixty I entered two contests, won second in one and
first in another in the expert field. Now that my wife and I are older, we decided to start selling our leather work.
She helps me in our shop and it takes both of us in making items.
I enjoy seeing other art, it helps me think out of the box and become
more creative in my leather work projects, even though I have done many projects from patterns. I have started working
on drawing my own patterns.
My wife and I gave a presentation to get entered into a farmers market,
so hope to get to sell our items for the first time under a tent. I have sold a few items but not many because of working
and the family life. But now we have more time. I think it will be fun and interesting.
I hope this gives you an idea of my leather background. If you have any
questions please feel free to ask.
Thank you for stopping by and being my guest.
